UltraConsole
offers the latest in KVM Switch technology – KVMC (Keyboard,
Video, Mouse and Console). KVM stations (Keyboard, Video, Mouse),
located either locally or remotely, can connect to multiple CPUs
or Network or Serial Devices attached to each switch, (up to 1,000
ports if UltraConsole switches are inter-connected).
Inter-connection is achieved by a Rose UltraBus cable
connection between switches to make a seamless and truly scalable
KVMC switch. The advanced distributed MultIPoint design of UltraConsole
uses networking communication technology internally to reduce cost,
eliminate single points of failure and increase reliability.
The inherent flexibility of UltraConsole is managed
by Rose’s embedded UltraConsole application firmware, allowing
multiple Users to have unique password protected identities, so
access to various connected systems can be controlled and limited
as required.
Additional local users can be attached on each expansion
switch for local CPU and device cluster management. The multiplatform
(KVMC) module version of UltraConsole will support a mixture of
PC, SUN, SGI, MAC, RS6000, USB, HP and Serially accessed platforms
and is operating system independent.
UltraConsole reduces equipment clutter, saves physical
space and reduces equipment and power costs while considerably increasing
User ease and efficiency.
Features
- Single user KVM or KVMC switch modules replace traditional
KVM and Console server products with one integrated unit
- Rose UltraBus connectivity allows Users to access up
to 1,000 CPUs/servers/serial devices from one common console
- Plug-in expansion cards ensure flexibility and low system
cost
- Second tier Management access path (via UltraBus) allows
real time access and monitoring without disturbing local Users
- Security system with user ID, password and group profile
prevents unauthorized configuration
- Enterprise-wide access for attached users
- Choose between multi-platform (KVMC) or lower-cost PC
platform (KVM) pods
- Video resolution up to 1600 x 1280
- Advanced Visual Interface (AVI) on-screen display informs
you of connection status with user-friendly messages
- Connect additional users (KVM stations) if required at
each switch
- Pre-configuration feature allows installation without
powering down servers
- Switch computers from the keyboard, by using the AVI
interface or via the serial port

Applications
a) Use UltraConsole switches to provide Console
access points to Servers and Network Devices for increased user
efficiency, i.e one KVM in the Server Room and another KVM on the
Network Managers desk
b) Use the UltraConsole switch to enable 2, 3 or
4 users, local or remote, to access the same bank of CPUs/Servers.
Installation
UltraConsole is easy to install. You simply connect the User port
(KVM or serial) of the device you want to control to UltraConsole
ports using UltraCable. Use the embedded application via AVI or
UltraServe to configure settings such as computer names, mouse and
keyboard types and security levels and save it in UltraConsole’s
flash memory. Since interconnected switches are networked together,
configuring one switch configures them all.
Operation
You can tailor UltraConsole to suit your style of operation by configuring
the level of security required. Security levels can be auto-assigned
to specific KVM stations, or you can require users to log into the
switch with a user ID and password. The user profile then grants
access rights to designated computers and controls other operational
characteristics. Use simple keyboard commands to access computers
and system status.
Modes: Select View, Share, Control or Private mode
for users.
Serial Port: Each card has a serial port for control
of connection between users and CPUs from another computer. Serial
port is also used for Flash firmware upgrades.
Keyboard and Mouse
UltraConsole fully emulates the keyboard and mouse, so computers
can be booted at any time. UltraConsole is Operating System independent,
so it supports all operating systems such as Windows 95/98/NT/2000,
Linux, Unix, SUN Solaris and Apple. Keyboard and mouse can be PC
or SUN. Most major international keyboard types and characteristics
are recognised and supported.
Upgrades
To support the latest devices, UltraConsole contains Flash Memory.
Rose provides free lifetime upgrades available from the Rose FTP
Web Site. Simply load new firmware into the UltraConsole to add
new features or support new equipment.
Management
As well as being simply the best and most comprehensive KVM switch
ever built, UltraConsole supports a second (Management) KVMC channel.
This feature allows a Supervisor to monitor and switch to any connected
device from his desk at any time without disturbing the usual Users
in any way. This feature also provides a management and migration
path to Rose’s UltraMatrix family of products, offering enormous
expandability and flexibility. Using Rose’s UltraServe switch
Management agent a connection can be established between UltraConsole
and recognized Network Management protocols such as SNMP, allowing
usage statistics to be incorporated into overall Network logs.
